Jira Projects are soon renamed as Jira Spaces!

In Jira we have all been using Jira projects as the container for our work, but now, finally, that is changing. Jira Projects are being renamed to Jira Spaces!!
This was announced today in the Atlassian community, and I could not be more happy about this finally being publicly announced!
This change is for Jira, Jira Service Management and Jira Product Discovery.

How to add board and calendars to each of your Jira Service Management Queues!

A new feature has landed where you can take the Views feature in Jira Service Management to the next level.
For a while you have been able to add the Views feature which give you the ability to add a Board view and a Calendar view for your Jira Service Management project.
Now you can take that to the next level by adding a board view and a calendar view directly into your QUEUES!
You read that right, you can now have a board view and a calendar view added to your list view for each of your queues!
This is amazing for many reasons, and in this video I show how to get this setup and how to configure it.

Improved API security in the Atlassian Cloud platform with Scopes and Service Account additions

Security for API in the Atlassian Cloud is a very important thing and in a new article in the Atlassian Community we got several new updates on changes coming soon.
When creating an API key, admins can restrict access to only the necessary permissions. Adding scopes restricts access to only what is necessary, helping to reduce the scale of any potential security incidents.
This is an amazing addition that really can secure your API. Early Access Program: Service accounts: reduce admin overhead with service accounts by eliminating the need to maintain passwords, SSO, or 2FA for accounts that are only created to run scripts and integrations. Another amazing addition that really, really will save time and effort when setting up integrations!
In the article we also see more information on Orphaned API keys and Expiry of API and SCIM keys.

Atlassian Change the name for their products to apps and the community is confused!

At the Atlassian team '25 event last week several people took notice when Mike Cannon-Brooks, the founder of Atlassian continuously referred to the Atlassian products as apps.
As it turns out this was intentional and Atlassian has actually renamed their products to apps. As we already have apps in the form of marketplace apps, this begs the question: what is Atlassian thinking?
In an article in the Atlassian Community Atlassian is trying to explain this strange move, but I fail to understand the logic of having multiple things being named the same.
So in the future when someone refers to an app, then it can be a product like Jira, it can be a platform feature like Goals, it can be a marketplace plugin, or it can be an actual app like the mobile app for Jira.
Needless to say, this is causing some frustration and a whole lot of confusion.
The fact that this comes at the same time as the Issues are being renamed AND a completely new UI is rolling out is really not a good way to manage change.

Atlassian Team '25 Impressions - are we seeing the birth of a new Atlassian?

Atlassian Team '25 was held last week in Anaheim California and as always it was a massive marketing campaign designed to hype and increase sales.
00:00 - Like last year's event however there is more happening than just new features and new products. Atlassian is changing before our eyes and this year a lot of big changes occurred!
01:29 - Categorizing the Atlassian apps (products) is now happening, and we see a whole new ecosystem unfold. Atlassian is renaming their products to become apps, which is very confusing.
07:24 - A new packaging based on the new categorizing of the apps was presented, and they are called Collections. Two collections were announced: The Teamwork Collection with Jira, Confluence and Loom and 09:31 the Strategy collection with Align, Focus and the new app named Talent. It is an interesting choice as Align has been in a very awkward position before…
09:23 - Rovo is now the core of all products and Atlassian is making working with Rovo even easier with the new Rovo Studio. This is a shift from Jira towards Rovo and it is an interesting shift.
21:55 - New Cloud solutions are rolling out in the form of Government cloud and Isolated Cloud. Isolated cloud begs the question of where will this put the Atlassian Data Center platform, which was not mentioned at all.
26:52 - Customer Service Manager is a confusing product that is a bit unclear on what it is and how it fit with the rest of Jira Service Management. It looks like a Rovo Chat with some additional views, but it is unclear exactly what this is...

What is the difference between project and initiative, and why does it matter?

Many are using the term Project for bodies of work in both Operational budgets (OpEX) and in Investment budgets (CapEX) and this can have serious implications on how that work is being performed if used incorrectly.
In this video I go over the differences between what constitutes a project and what an initiative is. I also go over why this matters and what can happen if you use the terms incorrectly.
