Atlassian Assets: Too Powerful or Total Nightmare?

By 💫 Jimi Wikman ·
Atlassian Assets is no longer just a JSM feature — it's now a full platform app. But is it actually ready for real-world admins? In this episode, Alex and Jimi go head-to-head with completely opposite takes on one of Atlassian's most ambitious tools.
One of them loves it. One of them hates it. Both of them have the scars to prove it.
⚡ What we cover:
📦 How Insight became Assets — and why the cloud version was a disaster at first
🔧 Why setting it up wrong is worse than not using it at all
📊 Data modeling 101 — why database skills are now an Atlassian admin requirement
📥 CSV imports: from nightmare to actually manageable
🔐 The permissions problem nobody is talking about
💰 Pricing changes — what the JSM divorce means for your org
🛠️ Entra, Intune & third-party apps filling the gaps Atlassian hasn't fixed
🚀 Real use cases: IT hardware, licenses, certificates, space ownership & more
📚 Why the lack of documentation is the biggest problem holding Assets back

Atlassian Is Changing TOO FAST — And It's Costing Us Clients

By 💫 Jimi Wikman ·
Are Atlassian's constant updates helping or hurting your business? In this episode, we dive deep into Atlassian's release cadence — from Jira Cloud's new seasonal releases to the chaotic flood of daily changes across Confluence, JSM, and more. We talk about the real-world pain of broken documentation, renamed features, removed functionality, and being blindsided by changes mid-client engagement. If you manage Atlassian tools for your organization or customers, this one will hit close to home.

⏱️ Topics covered:
Jira Cloud's new seasonal release model — is it actually better?
"Projects" → "Spaces" → "Issues" → "Work Items" — make it stop
Why release notes are scattered across 6 different places
Removed features with zero warning (RIP individual capacity planning)
Is Atlassian truly enterprise-ready?
What Atlassian CEO Mike Cannon-Brookes said about the rate of change

What Are Spikes in Agile? When & How to Use Them Effectively

By 💫 Jimi Wikman ·
Unsure how to handle ambiguity during sprint planning? In this video, we break down the concept of agile spikes — what they are, when to use them, and how to structure them so your team stays focused without going down rabbit holes.
We explore how to use epics as discovery drivers, why time-boxing investigations beats open-ended estimates, and how the Three Amigos framework (product owner, developer, and tester) ensures the right people are involved in requirement discovery. You'll also learn how to scope a spike effectively so engineers solve the right problem — not every problem.
Whether you're managing a product team or working within a project-based model, this conversation offers practical strategies for handling unknowns without derailing your sprint. We also cover when spikes add real value versus when they become just another arbitrary task in your backlog.
Key topics include spike workflows, epic status tracking, time-boxing requirements, backlog management, and the true cost of requirement discussions.
Perfect for Scrum Masters, Product Owners, Agile Coaches, and developers looking to sharpen their sprint planning process.

My brutally honest opinion of the individual capacity planning announced for Jira

By 💫 Jimi Wikman ·
When Atlassian announced that they were looking into individual resource planning, I was super excited! When I witnessed the first post on how they are thinking about implementing it, I was heartbroken...
This is my BRUTALLY honest opinion on the suggested setup of individual capacity planning... in Jira. You can expect a deep dive into resource management, resource planning, and how I would do it if I had a position at Atlassian.
Enter at your own peril.

How to use automation to send emails based on renewal date attributes in assets

By 💫 Jimi Wikman ·
If you want to automate so you can send out emails when Assets date attributes are within a certain range, then this is the video for you.
In this video, I show you how to create a simple automation that can check a date attribute in Asset objects, and based on how many days there are to that date, an email will be sent out.
This is great for getting notified when it is time to renew licenses or certificates, for example.

Cascading fields for Atlassian Assets with multiple values

By 💫 Jimi Wikman ·
In a previous video, I showed how you can set up two custom fields for Assets, so the selection of the first field will act as a filter in the second field. This way, we can, for example, select a country in the first field and then show the cities based on the country selection in the second field.
In this video, I show how you can expand on this so that if you select multiple options in the first field, you will also get a selection for both in the second field. It might seem like a simple change, but it is actually a bit tricky!

What is the future for technical Atlassian architects when the Atlassian data center products end?

By 💫 Jimi Wikman ·
With the end of life for Atlassian data center products in 2029, how will this affect Atlassian architects and administrators who are more technically oriented? Also, what does this mean for Atlassian partners that might focus a lot on the technical aspects of the tools today?
In this video, I give my point of view on this topic based on my experiences both on the technical aspects of the industry and as someone who works on the strategic aspects as well.

A Brutal Review of the Atlassian Strategy Collection and how it fits the current PPM gap.

By 💫 Jimi Wikman ·
Is the Atlassian Strategy Collection really the answer for modern Project Portfolio Management (PPM)? In this video, I take a critical look at Align, Talent, and Focus—three key components designed to connect strategy with execution. While Atlassian promises better alignment, resource visibility, and prioritization, do these tools truly deliver for enterprise-level portfolio management?
Is the Strategy Collection even trying to target PPM capabilities, and if not, what is their target customer group? I have tried to find these answers, and in this video, I give you my findings.
This video is a follow-up to my previous video, which I made before Atlassian Team 25 in Barcelona, and the result is the outcome of my investigations since then.
