You have been working for the same company for over a decade. Your roles have changed, your responsibilities have changed. But your desk remains the same. Most of your best friends and colleagues have left you to move on to greener pastures. They still call you and share how awesome it is at their place. Some of them have free food too. But you still are at the same place, paying for the same old lunch.
You see new faces joining every week. Some have better degrees, some have a huge breadth of experience, changing companies every 2 years. You are the mentor for many of these new faces. Some of them have less experience than you but are getting a higher pay package than you.
You go through what I call is the “Longtime at a company” remorse. You want to move, but you don’t. Because you think you are in it for the long run.
Today, I’ll explain why you may be right. As a programmer, staying in the same company for a long time has a lot of advantages.
