Atlassian has officially released Atlassian Backup & Restore into General Availability, providing a new, native, policy‑based backup and recovery solution for Jira (including Jira Service Management) and Confluence Cloud.

  Admins can centrally define what to back up and how often, with scheduled daily or weekly backups across apps.

• Fast disaster recovery:
  “Hot backups” can restore an entire site within 12 hours or less, minimizing downtime after customer‑owned incidents such as accidental deletion or data corruption.

• Compliance support:
  The system offers detailed backup reports, audit logs, and security controls to help organizations meet internal and external compliance requirements.

• Protects against customer‑owned incidents:
  Atlassian highlights that while their native disaster recovery protects against infrastructure failures, it does not cover internal data risks—this new service fills that gap.

• Paid add‑on: Sold per app and per user.
  Only available for Premium and Enterprise plan customers.

• GA size limits:
  Each app (Jira/Confluence) has explicit size limits; larger instances must coordinate with Atlassian.

Notable limitations

• Data residency not supported:
  Backups created with this new service are not pinned to the customer’s selected data residency region.

• Backup retention (general Atlassian model):
  Backups stored in Atlassian‑managed storage typically remain available for 14 days, though this applies more broadly to Atlassian Cloud backups.
