You will be a valued member of the cross-functional Education R&D team doing both front- and backend development. Our work is to enable the next generation of creators to thrive, by giving educators the tools to build learning opportunities for their students. In our scope is also serving sales, support, finance and payments for education users.

Our challenge right now is a pleasant one: Our volume of users has grown and our tech systems are not always scaled up at the same speed. We come from a startup background and need to mature our tech into a stable, maintainable, scalable, secure platform.

You will help the team to:
Maintain a holistic view on how we can evolve our systems into more secure solutions for the schools that we are serving.
Take architectural decisions and engineer the results regarding application security.

These are some of the things you will do:

• Design, implement and maintain features

• Evolve, modularize and strengthen our tech platform

• Work actively with our key customers and product manager, to shape and integrate business needs into technical requirements for team work

• Collaborative coding

• Drive engineering and test automation practices

• Encourage and support others in developing good sharing habits

• Maintain an understanding of, and be able to clearly explain the high level architecture and design of our systems as well as how they fit into the larger topologies. This can include driving improvement and deprecation efforts

• An experienced full stack engineer with depth in backend and a zeal for creating solutions that are secure for our student users

• Well-rounded in both your understanding of tech as well as business impact

Requirements

• Solid understanding and practical experience of developing solutions in Java

• Experience in application security,both backend and web

• Practical experience with a modern frontend framework, eg Angular, and CSS

Nice to have
Any previous experience in:
Security:

• Finding and fixing issues in the OWASP top 10 in web applications

• Educated your fellow team members about privacy and security measures to raise awareness

• Implemented regression tests for identified and fixed security issues

• Implemented automated tests to identify web security issues as part of continuous development.

• GCP and know how to security implement features in it

Front-end:

• Design systems

• Improving accessibility

• RESTful APIs

• You know your way around the browser developer tools, and like figuring out what makes web applications tick

Bonus

• UX and/or design experience

• Experience with designing for accessibility
