Atomic UX Research. Sounds like something amazing, doesn't it? Something that will fit right into the modular design and development processes in Atomic Design. Unfortunately it is just a fancy name for having a proper documentation strategy for UX Research made up by UX Designers who work in poorly structured workplaces. When I first read the article "Foundations of atomic research", I had no idea what the person was talking about. Was it a process, a content strategy or maybe even how to

Figma has been in the news for designers for a while and it is in many ways praised as the one tool that will save us all. I am still skeptical because to me Figma is a generalist tool, and I am used to working with specialist tools. I will go over the selling points that Figma have listed as to why people make the switch from Sketch to Figma. On the Figma website they list 3 main selling points for making the switch: Less is more, Faster in the cloud and Better Teamwork. The collaboration

After some time in beta Sketch 69 was released yesterday and it was a great release indeed. We finally got Color variables, which has been much requested. We also got the first taste of the components view which is a more structured way to manage all your assets. Finally we got a new insert window to make adding your assets into a design so very much easier and intuitive. Color variable This is amazing and I like this a lot, espcially combined with the Components view. For pe

If you work as a Service Designer or as someone who try to sell Service Design assignments, then you probably have noticed that it is not so easy. You probably have met your fair share of people that have no idea what you are talking about. Maybe you have written that off because the job title is still fairly new, but that is not always the case. Service Design from a UX perspective is still fairly confusing and poorly defined. It's a problem that you hear many definitions of what a UX Serv

For many, many years visual designers have been working outside the workflow of IT. The way of working differ a lot from the more controlled IT deliveries, which has meant that design often comes as design drops rather than as a part of an Agile workflow. Today we have many tools that can change that, but how do you do that and what is the benefit? For many years visual design have been a messy affair with naming convention and external cloud storage where versions get put into a named fold

When you work with graphics one of the most important aspects is to maintain order among your assets. Having a good system to control stock graphics and reusable vector graphics is essential for a good workflow and proper management of assets. I have struggled to find a system that I like, but now I think I have fond it. As I was updating some images and tried to locate a specific image I got frustrated and did a deep dive into the asset managers for images that are out there. By accident I

A nice new update for Sketch mac app came out yesterday. It comes with some nice quality of life additions and some bugfixes as well as two new features. It's a good start on the new year I think. New Smart Layout controls In this release we got a nice new addition where we can set minimum width for symbols. This is useful for making sure your assets look good when doing overrides as well as controlling size for tap and other things. Maximum dimension is coming soon as well so you can

Every year Pantone present a color to represent humanity’s hopes and aspirations for the coming year. Each year it stir some controversy, like last years Living Coral (PANTONE 16-1546) that caused quite the stir. This year the Pantone selected is the Classic Blue (PANTONE 19-4052).   "Instilling calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era."

Procreate 5 has been announced and with it comes some cool new features such as brand new cutting edge graphics engine and the new brush studio. I will try to tell you about five of them that I think is pretty cool and that i think will really make this upgrade worth while. Procreate 5 is built on a new graphics engine called Valkyrie. This will not only improve performance, but will also allow new features such as importing Photoshop brushes and customizable brush options. "the new cu

Personalization, omnichannel, SEO and SEM. These are the things you hear people spend tons of money on in 2016, but only recently have you started to hear more about UX. Unfortunately the term UX is used as some form of collective phrase for all things related to design and conversion optimization, which it is not. When discussing UX you will almost always have conversation drifting into topics of visual design, Interaction Design (IxD) and of course Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO).

UX design, visual design, interaction design, creative technologist, GUI designer, usability consultant, information architect. The titles are endless these days and as someone who work with all of these pretty much every day I am starting to wonder if we are breaking things down to much these days, or if it is actually necessary to get things done? 10 years ago most of these titles were pretty uncommon, at least compared to the way they are used today. They still existed, they just were
